pumpkin picking
This morning I took the boys out pumpkin picking. Unless you have a car to drive out to a bona fide pumpkin patch, or want to take a long train ride over to Long Island or up to Westchester County, or other such places outside of New York's city limits, picking a pumpkin to carve for Halloween is a somewhat different experience. Instead of hopping between garden rows to find the biggest, roundest, most orange pumpkin available, we hopped between various neighborhood produce stands to find one we liked. Because it is the week of Halloween, the pickings were pretty slim, but that did not deter us, and after a relatively brief search on foot, we found one that was average sized, mostly round, and not too dinged up which we purchased and brought home. Maybe later this week we'll carve it into a jack 'o lantern.

Before this year I had no idea that kids were so naturally drawn to pumpkins. Look at Garrett's giant grin - like nothing in the world could be as happy as owning his very own pumpkin. Who knew that happiness could cost as little as 19 cents per pound?
Caleb looks especially fascinated too! Hoorah for Halloween! I can't wait to see them as dalmations!
very cute and how the heck did you haul that pumpkin home!?
Oh, enjoy the carving! Garrett looks extremely excited about that pumpkin, and Caleb looks very "I'm cool."
That pumpkin is practically bigger than Caleb!
Well, looks like you picked a winner--look how happy Garrett is! Your boys are adorable!
