Only 8 1/2 left to go.

I was a little surprised to hear my doctor tell me yesterday that I've dilated to 1 1/2 centimeters. I guess all those crazy contractions I've been having for the last six weeks or so have not been for naught. While I was told that this is perfectly normal, that all it means is that things are progressing as they should, the doctor also felt the need to tell me, "But let's try to keep this baby in there for a few more weeks." Though Blake is convinced otherwise, I still really don't think that, unless the contractions I've been having suddenly change dramatically, that the baby will come early -- or at least very early. We'll see though, I guess. (But I still think that, should he come early, July 7th would be a pretty awesome date -- 07/07/07.) At any rate, I only have 8 1/2 centimeters left to go. That's something, right?

The doctor also felt it necessary to tell me that the baby has been lowering and that his head is resting comfortably (for him, not for me) on my bladder. As if I couldn't have told him that myself! If my bladder isn't being treated like a trampoline, it's being used as a soft, bury-your-head-in-deep pillow. Ah well, what can you do?

My mom teaches prenatal classes and has a model pelvis and life-sized newborn doll. Every time I think 10cm I see this doll in my head being jammed through the pelvis, shiver, and then think, "aw man, the shoulders are next!"

Internal organs used as pillows - yeah, that doesn't sound comfortable. At least you get your exercise running to the bathroom and back?

We were hoping for 5/5/05 for Lucy! Alas, she was late and didn't arrive until the 18th... But maybe you guys can pull it off!!! We'll cross our fingers :)

Wow, you've dilated farther than I ever did! When are you due again? And yeah, even though an early baby seems like it might be nice . . . it wouldn't hurt to keep him in there. Bigger babies eat better and generally sleep better. But whatever. You'll do fine.

How cool that would be: 7/7/07; and if he were born at like 7:07:07, that would be even cooler.

As I am the constant voice of doom regarding overdue babies, I have to mention that I walked around FOUR cm dialated for six weeks. I could feel his head turning down there. TMI, but really! It was ridiculous and I was sure he'd come early and then he was induce a week overdue. So, pakc your bags but don't get to anxious. I about gave myself and aneurism over it. You are a much more grounded and sane person though, so you'll probably be fine. Good luck--the end of pregnancy is just a crazy time.

Kristeee - Yeah, for those very reasons, I'm trying not to think about HOW the baby will come out. All in good time. :)

Lori & Kristen - I'll be counting on all your crossed fingers for that awesome date. :)

Desmama - Not till July 16th, so we have a ways still. Yeah, I'd kind of like to keep him in there a while longer, which I really don't think will be a problem.

Amyjane - Man, that stinks. Hopefully your next one won't put you through that kind of misery. :) I think that Blake is the only one who is absolutely convinced that the baby will come early -- I've had to assure him a few times that I most certainly was not in labor. Uncomfortable, yes, but not in labor. And simply because I have a history of somehow finding the hard way of doing things, I fully expect this kid to take his time. We'll see, I guess.
